Usage of the tools and machines

The usage of the tools and Machines is controlled through a stoplight-system, which clearly categorizes everything in the MakerSpacES!

    Stop light system

GrünGreen:This step follows the general safety rules set by the WstO. With this level of authorization students are allowed to enter the MakerSpacES! and work at the available workspaces. Usage of tools or machines of any kind is prohibited, however using simple items like scissors, glue or a hammer is allowed. This level is reached with a simple introduction to the workshop.

GelbYellow: After a completed safety briefing (e.g. the correct handling of the machines) students have reached the yellow level. This means they can use for example: powerdrills, saws, soldering irons, microcontrollers, etc.

RotRed: Students who want to reach level red to work with machines like the 3D-printers, the plotter, the transferpress, or the lasercutter, must absolve an introductory course to the respective machines. To find these introductory courses you must be signed in to our 🔗Moodle-Kurs

All safety briefings for the MakerSpacES! are held in person by the coordinators. Generally all briefings must be refreshed yearly. When a briefing has been completed it must be documented with the participant's signature. .

Rot🔗Leather sewing machine (JUKI LU 1509 NS)

    Grundsätzliches:

Juki's new, unique, completely rectangular feeding motion ensures a uniform material transport of all thicknesses without puckering. The range of alternating vertical movement of the walking foot and presser foot can be adjusted up to a maximum of 6.5 mm and applies even pressure to prevent irregular stitching. The high-capacity vertical hook increases efficiency by reducing the frequency of bobbin thread changes. Furthermore, the machine features a dual tension mechanism that supports sewing with high tension and thick threads, ensuring excellent seam quality across a wide range of materials, from lightweight to heavy. The machine is suitable for a broad range of heavy-duty materials for industrial use, such as conveyor belts and containers, as well as for general use, including car seats, sofas, and bags. With the introduction of a new right-angle feed mechanism, a vertical movement mechanism, and a unison feed mechanism, the machine can powerfully and evenly transport heavy materials. Well-tensioned stitches are consistently produced without splitting errors. With its maximum stitch length of 9 mm, the machine can be used for a wider spectrum of applications.
